The BummKinn Band
Although some children are told they were “delivered by the stork,” Kimber Breaux claims her parents insisted she was tossed off a Shetland pony into a hay field. Growing up in Beaumont, Texas she says she didn’t doubt that story as it would explain her upside-down approach to the world. She thinks and often speaks in rhyme. She says she can’t help it, it just happens every time.
Translating her interest in rhymes into music began in junior high school when she formed a singing group that performed tunes by country greats including Hank Williams George Jones, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and others. Her infatuation with country culture continued at Texas A&M University where she majored in Agriculture. But the performing bug kept stinging her.
After moving to Los Angeles, Kimber participated as a performer and choreographer in the top selling children’s video, "Dance Workout with Barbie." Performing for children and the birth of her nephew fostered her interest in writing music for kids. And, the idea for THE BUMMKINN BAND was born.
The band’s name is based on the singer’s own approach to life. “Most people think of a country bumpkin as someone who isn’t sophisticated or smart. But, I like to believe that it’s more about enjoying life and having a good time – relishing the simple things that life has to offer.”
In the first CD, her blend of toe-tapping, boot scootin’ music is a mixture of traditional country, folk and blues. Many of the songs will have instant recognition to listeners as they reflect the lessons in nursery rhymes. Kimber wrote all of the songs herself and bases some on true experience. The idea for “SNOWMAN IN THE FREEZER” was a story told by her nephew who was trying to save the snow that rarely falls in South Central Texas. Other songs reflect her desire to help children believe in themselves and make the absolute most out of life.
The second album is as rockin as a country CD could ever wish to be. With a blend of old school and modern country plus a couple a blues/rock-a-billy fusions, the bummkinns have created a new classic for country kids everywhere. Original themes and lyrics presented by Breaux with fabulous collaborations in melody and chords from the rest of the BummKinns, Ryan Beuter ( Mighty Maverick ) and Sam Nickell ( Big Red ), and their amazing producer Howard Lipp all combined makes the most boot scootin rootin tootin kid's music ever. And we must not forget the bummkinn cousins who played their lil hearts out for the CD ; Jordan Shapiro (Joe Moe ), Patrick Hildebrand ( PBJB ), Michael Starr ( liddle fiddle biddle ), Cliff Wagner ( Pickin Bob ), Fred E Markowitz ( Harmonica Hank ), and Jeff Hanes ( Sticks ).
Breaux and the BummKinn's have created an amazing stage show Grand Ole Opry style with an inspiration from one of her favorites HeeHaw and she is developing a TV series that will feature Joe Bear BummKinn, the character pictured on her CD.
Don't forget to catch the bonus story track on the new CD for a preview of a couple of creatures Breaux has created, the rhinurtle elesnail and his mumblin bumble seed. Two odd creatures that roam the country side bringing music and arts to towns to bring them back to life.
